Week of Monday, May 24th - Friday, June 11th, 2010

This week, 8th grade English Language Art's students will finish up the remaining pages of their grammar packet, review for their Grammar Test, and re-take their Grammar Assessment the Tuesday that they return from Memorial Day Break. Please, encourage your son/daughter to study their grammar pages and any notes they take during the review.

In the last few weeks of school, the students will shift their focus to adequately preparing for their future. They will be drilled on investigating and contemplating their plans for their future, their knowledge of collegiate jargon, high school requirements, and more.

This week, 8th grade Advanced English Language Art's students will finish veiwing Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", work on answering their reveiw questions and take their test on Friday. Please, encourage your son/daughter to continue to always be diligently studying their weekly S.A.T. vocabulary words.

In the last few weeks of school, the students will complete a brienf Grammar review, take their Grammar Assessment, and finish with their last round of S.A.T. vocabulary words

For the month of April...

Upon returning from Spring Break, students completed a short Grammar Review and "How to Create a Bibliogrpahy" Review with supplimental tests to evaluate their progress. This week, and until the end of April, students will be analyzing the characteristics of the dramayic reading of the Diary of Anne Frank. Students will improv Act 1 Scene 1 and then view and discuss the remainder of the play prior to follow up testing and assessment.
Honor Students will be reading, acting out, and analyzing Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream along with continuously learning and taking their weekly SAT vocabulary test. Expect that they will be completing worksheets on the different acts of the play and studying their vocabulary for daily homework for the remainder of this month.

Wednesday, March 4th, 2010 - Friday, March 26th, 2010

This month in Miss Brown's 8th grade English Language Arts and Advanced Language Art's class, students will choose a topic to research; controversial topics and desired careers respectively. Students will spend three days conducting research in the library/computer lab. Thereafter, the students will organize their facts (at least 30 from 3 different types of sourches) and compose a rough draft that they will then have a peer evaluate. Students will incorporate the necessary suggestions and corrections as they type their final draft of their paper. Students will then create a persuasive speech from the information that they were able to gather and from the paper written. Their speeches will need to be informative, persuasive, entertaining and incorporate a visual aid. Students will be conducting presenting their speeches the last week of the 3rd marking period (March 24th - 26th).

Week of Feb. 8th - Feb.12th, 2010

This week (and for the remainder of the month of February) in Miss Brown's class, students will continue to read and discuss their chosen book within their literature circles. Students are expected to complete their reading and predetermined worksheet within their green packet each night in order to be properly prepared for the following day's discussion and possible "Pop Quiz". Please, double check that your son/daughter is completing their reading and worksheets at home accordingly.
